1.Being Inattentive
Believe it or not, our skin has ways of communicating to us what it needs. Whether it be in the form of a pimple, rash or discoloration, it is key to pay attention to the way our skin reacts to certain products as well as how it behaves in different conditions.
2. Not Double Cleansing
Double cleansing is one of the simplest steps you can take to bettering your skin. Instead of cleansing once, try twice. First cleanse to remove any dirt that might have gathered on your skin throughout the day, including dead skin cells, then again to thoroughly purify your skin. This method of cleaning your face is great because it is not harsh or damaging to your skin at all.
3. Over-exfoliating
Unlike double cleansing over-exfoliating is no good. We all love the feeling of spotless skin after a decent scrub, but if this is done too often you will weaken your skin’s protective barrier, increasing sensitivity and making it more susceptible to break outs. It is recommended that we exfoliate our skin 1-2 times weekly.
4. Using Old Products
All skincare and makeup products have an expiry date and making use of off foundation or face cream is a crime punishable by bad skin, in short it is a recipe for disaster. Throw your old products away!
5. Not Wearing Sunscreen
I’m sure by now you know that SPF is a skincare staple. Apply sunscreen daily, even on cloudy days to protect your skin from UV rays and prevent premature aging.
6. Being Unhygienic
Hygiene is a fundamental part of not just skincare but your daily routine as a human being. It is best to clean all items that are likely to come into contact with your face at least once a week. Doing this will minimize the bacteria build up on your skin, resulting in less or no breakouts.
7. Not Doing Your Research
By this I mean not knowing your skin. If you have been a frequent reader of the skincare category on this magazine, you should know your skin type, what products your skin likes in different climates, you should also know why you need sunscreen as a part of your daily skincare routine. Failure to read up or educate yourself on something you are trying to take care of and improve, such as your skin will not benefit you in any way.
