H.E.R. Debuts An Emotional Tribute To The #BLM Movement.

Gabriella Wilson aka H.E.R, known for her soulful and refreshing sound. Some have often described her as an enigmatic R&B sensation and her latest release titled “I Can’t Breathe,” is testament to that. The R&B/ Soul track titled after George Floyd’s last words, is a somber tune with a powerful message. The song highlights the injustices, killings and racism faced in modern day America and the world, by black people.

The Grammy-winning R&B singer-songwriter delivers a monologue where she speaks of the illusion of a free America. Her lyrics: “This is the American pride/ It’s justifying a genocide/ Romanticizing the theft and bloodshed/ That made America the land of the free/ To take a black life, land of the free/To bring a gun to a peaceful fight for civil rights/ You are desensitized to pulling triggers on innocent lives.”

The message is painful and very revealing said the singer-songwriter after a soul-stirring perfomance of the track during an episode of the HeartRadio Living Room Concert Series. The track title comes from the last words of George Floyd, one of the victims of police brutality in America. It’s a call to change, a call for equality and fairness for a better future. The song, in the singer’s words, is meant to invoke change and healing and hopefully make a mark.
