Queendom is a song about owning who are you as a woman, taking up space and being unapologetically you. According to Joy, the track was inspired by a rise in gender based violence cases in the world.
I love seeing women take over spaces and killing it in the process. One lady doing the most is undoubtedly JoyRukanza formerly known as JØY. Her recent body of work Queendom is out now and let me tell you, it’s phenomenal. The amount of work, time, effort, creativity and money she puts into her music is unbelievable. The amount of detail she that goes into her work is amazing.
Queendom is a song about owning who you are as a woman, taking up space and being unapologetically you. Be you and be the best version of you. According to Joy, the track was inspired by a rise in gender based violence cases in the world. What I love is that she stepped out of her comfort zone and made an effort to spread a message and help empower women.
She delivered the message and created a masterpiece in the process. Her performance is so bada*s you get literal goosebumps. Her voice is powerful. And I like how she adjusts her voice and gives us a different vibe. She’s versatile.
The project was handled so beautifully by the whole team. I’m talking about international standard. The project brought together people from different parts of Africa. The video was shot in Dar es Salaam and makeup and hair all done by a team from South Africa. Our very own Murphy Cubic showed out on the track production. He did justice to the track. He murdered it. The sound is not something you hear every day.
Twinner Flex and Silvester Kikoti took directing and video production, respectively, to the next level. From video concept to the shots, top tier stuff. From the beach scenes to the shoot out scene, she embodied it! On behalf of everyone who’s watched the video, I’d like to thank JoyRukanza and the team from the people featured on screen to the people behind the scenes, siyabonga, thank you, maitabasa for serving us these fire flames.
Joy keeps levelling up with each body of art she releases. She’s talented and a genuine artist. We really are seeing the rise of a star and we couldn’t be more happy for her. Not only did she kill the game, she changed it too!
