US based upcoming artist and musician Munyaradzi Mambira, has released his single “Moyongcwele” in collaboration with 2 Yung. The head bopper of a song, is offering thanks and praise to the Holy Spirit but with a brilliant fusion of Amapiano meets Afro Pop. The song, is available on all music streaming platforms.
Munyaradzi, or “Munya” as he would prefer to be known, has declined to be called a gospel or an Afro Pop musician, rather he has opted to be remembered as a versatile artist, who can appeal to an array of communities and people. Speaking from Eugene, Oregon where he currently lives and works, Munya shared his spiritual journey when creating this song:
“I wrote this song when I was going through a really tough time, when I had just here in the US and I felt like I had nowhere to turn to anymore. Writing this song helped me work through a lot of things and I hope it will resonate with a lot of people and they will find courage in these lyrics.”
“If my EP was my body, then Moyongcwele would be my heart because I have such a deep connection to it. At the time, I felt like I was being spiritually attacked and was crying half the time I wrote the song but I can’t wait for everyone to hear the song,” Munya said.
The song which was penned by the 20-year-old Bulawayo born artist, boasts of a team of musical Extraordinaires that have taken both the local and international industry by storm. Produced by Murphy Cubic, the track has seamlessly blended the contemporary sounds of Afro Pop with the timeless guitar offered by musical guru Gilbert Zvamaida.
Gilbert Zvamaida is a guitarist based in Oregon, USA, and is best known for his works which include playing guitar for Thomas Mapfumo’s band ‘The blacks Unlimited’. With 30 years of touring the globe, Zvamaida added a touch of the traditional feel to the song.
Munya also worked with renowned producer and recording engineer Marshall Bryant to create the song. Marshall, who was the audio engineer for Mary J Blige’s “Only Love” has produced for international stars like Keyshia Cole, T.I, and Macy Gray among many others.
“I am really grateful to have worked with such an amazing group of artists that have contributed so much to the local and international music scene. The fact that the likes of Uncle Gilbert, and Marshall took the time out to help out a budding musician like me, means the world to me,” Munya said.
Born and raised in Mzilikazi, Munya has always been musically inclined as he has been writing songs and singing since he was in primary school. After moving to the United States, at the age of 18 he decided that he would put maximum effort into his musical career, which led him to drop out of school so he could work and fund his music.
Being born into a family of musicians, it is natural that Munya goes down that path of an arts career. His father John Munyaradzi Mambira, is a performing artist also based in the US as well. John Mambira is the leader of musical group, Bongo Love, an Afro Beats ensemble that has been touring the globe sharing their “Afrocoustics” sounds.
