Zimbabwe Online Content Creators (ZOCC) is partnering with Postal Telecommunications and Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) is conducting an inaugural workshop which will run from the 15th to the 16th of September, 2022. More than sixty online content creators from all ten provinces of the country have been signed up to attend this historical engagement to be held in Kwekwe. The organisers say the main objective of this gathering is to produce quality online content creators who are able to generate content for various consumers around Zimbabwe and beyond.
The organisers, ZOCC and Potraz, aim engage with creatives on ways they can leverage on the already established postal infrastructure in order to increase reach and national inclusivity through the workshop. Potraz is set to have time to engage with the Zimbabwe Online Content Creators on various issues and challenges they face and best ways to leverage on already established postal infrastructure, so they increase reach and national inclusivity. Online Content creators will be accorded with opportunities and responsibilities to dedicate focus on specific sectors around communities including marginalised peripheries.
The organisers have also promised that the guest of honour to officiate the opening ceremony will be the minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services Dr. Jenfan Muswere. The conversation with the content creators will address ways to seek lasting solutions around content creation in Zimbabwe. The workshop is also set to look into the operating environment for online players amidst the cyber security bill and how best government and online players can co-exist.
ZOCC chairperson Mr. Toneo Rutsito expressed his confidence that this will lead to long term benefits including his ambitious vision in particular towards the creation of a ZOCC hub. The hub will be a physical structure that will cater for all online players also help students kick start their industrial attachment in an already financially difficult environment. “I’m so excited about the upcoming event, we have the support of Potraz director general Dr Gift Kalisto Machengete, who has content creation at heart, in His Geneva speech he pledged to see how best he can assist us to professionalise, capacitate and empower all the young content creators, to me this is fundamental, this is not your usual talk away workshop” said Toneo.
