Give us a brief background on who are you and what your organisation does?
My name is Minister Matsela I’m a servant of Christ within the Pentecostal community. I have an online virtual ministry called Cindy Joel Ministries, and I’m based in Pretoria, South Africa.
My core ministry focus includes youth ministry, orphan care, fostering spiritual growth and building a strong community. It is rooted and grounded in love, love for God, love for one another and the hope of salvation.
I say I’m a servant because I’m called to serve the broader community. This includes volunteering with organisations focused on orphan and widow care, youth empowerment and ending period poverty.
I’m passionate about poverty alleviation which is exemplified by our missionary work in an orphanage in Lilongwe, Malawi (Chikondi & Mphatso Orphan Care Centre) whereby we conduct an annual drive for school shoes, groceries, clothes, and sanitary pads for donations.
I’m also part of the Lord Help Me Heal Foundation, which offers free counselling to the youth that are battling with addiction to various vices and substance abuse.
I’ve always known Zimbabwe, and the last time I was here is about 10 years ago. I used to deliver basic food stuffs from South Africa to different shops in Machipisa.
What really stood out for you about Zimbabwe?
For me, Zimbabwe was like love as first sight and I fell in love with the language not to mention the khovo/green vegetables. During that time I had the opportunity to drive through different villages and towns and I must say I love the Zimbabwean culture and yes the music, I’m a fan of Alick Macheso. Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to go and visit the Victoria Falls, and I am still enamoured today.
What do you hope to achieve on this visit to Zimbabwe?
I want to meet with different ministers of the gospel is Zimbabwe, learn more about the different business opportunities this side, and probably invest. I am meeting with WestProp Holdings to explore the AirBnB industry in Zimbabwe and the real estate industry as a whole. Primarily, my heart is on the orphans and I can’t wait to visit Harare Children’s Home and see how my team and I can play a role towards their needs and hopefully assist.
I’ve also been nominated for the Emerging Brands in Africa Awards for the work we’re doing as the Lord Help Me Heal Foundation. The awards are being held this Saturday evening and it’s an honour and privilege to be acknowledged for the work we’ve put in.
Why do you want to make this donation?
As I grew in my Christianity and ministry and I fell in love with the ministry of children, working with orphanage cares and helping them in both South Africa and Malawi. I felt the need to do the same in Zimbabwe. I’ve also noticed that we have a lot of great servants of God in Zimbabwe, and the majority go to South Africa to preach. It’s rare to find a South African preacher attempting to do ministry this side, so let me just say I’m returning the favour.
One of the things Jesus encourages us to do is to look after the orphans and the widows, so primarily we do these donations in adherence to that. Our mission is to provide care and shelter to as many orphans as possible in as many African countries as we are able to. My love for Africa and its people is what drives me to invest in the future of Africa, which is the youth and the children. I am a strong believer in the power of giving, compassion, lifelong learning, and building bridges between communities, and our ongoing missionary work in Malawi is proof and testament of that.
When and where are you making this donation?
We’ve uploaded a TikTok video mobilising our Zimbabwean members for donations towards our first visit to the Harare Children’s Home. Once we have received a substantial amount of donations, we’ll go and do the official handover. We just want to make a good first impression.
How do people get in touch with Minister Matsela Joel to donate?
They can WhatsApp me on my number +27 62 061 3799, and I’ll send them the wish list. They can choose what they can donate towards the list. Every single donation counts.
