You’re invited to the Bulawayo Public Library 125th anniversary

Carved from the dusty era of 1896 Rhodesia, when most of our beloved contemporary city was but a vast stretch of structural and economic potential. The Bulawayo Public Library’s inception was a makeshift wooden fortress with less than a tenth of the books and information prowess it boasts of today. Now over a century later, this majestic white elephant gracefully centaurs towards a grand 125 year anniversary in the commemorative month of October, 2021.

I write to you, citizen of the city of Kings and Queens, from the bustling Historic Reference Collection. A branch of the library at the City Hall. The Elwyn Chimes rings its Westminster melody to herald 08:15 hours on the town clock. Purging the city of the past’s tedious events and ushering us into a new day with that renewed creed old as time: Masiye phambili. Masiye.

Bulawayo Public Library kindly invites all citizenry to join in witnessing this 125 year milestone. Let us hoist the colours, celebrate, orchestrate and together marvel at this feat envisioned by the late Robin Doust- the library’s founder.
