The NUST American Space will be conducting a training in Cyber Security Basics that will be unpacking the essentials for women conducting business online on Wednesday the 18th of May 2022. The workshop aims at equipping women in business with safe ways of conducting business online without compromising their privacy, personal safety and their security. Topics to be covered will include personal data protection, password protection, safe online banking, using mobile money safely and security checklists. 
Sibusisiwe Bhebhe, the NUST American Space Programmes Coordinator said this is a half day course meant to help women take note of the dangers that await them as they ply their trade online and how to protect themselves from such dangers. There will be an online version of the training lined up for upcoming months for those who may be unable to attend the one-on-one session this Wednesday.
This comes at a time when businesses have embraced digital reforms and adopted conducting their business transactions online since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. “Since Covid-19 and its subsequent lockdown and restrictions, many women have taken their small businesses online. This is a new terrain in terms of business for most and many have found themselves cheated out of lots of goods and or money. The use of on-line banking and mobile money payment methods is another opportunity for women in business that has however seen many get crooked or paying for substandard products.” With these concerns, the objectives Cyber Security course will, “Offer digital safety skills to women trading businesses online; Encourage privacy and personal safety for women sharing their information and products on line; To encourage more use of digital business platform but with safety first being the motto,” added Sibusisiwe Bhebhe.
