Here’s what we know about #ScriptsAndBars!

#ScriptsAndBars Microsoft E-Learning session in Bulawayo
Kay Media Africa (Zim) in conjunction with Reprezent Radio (UK) with support from the British Council and Swiss Agency for Development and Co-Operation (SDC) have launched the #ScriptsandBars project. Under the Scripts and Bars project, 100 creatives from the UK and Zimbabwe will collaborate on creative projects in music and literature. The project will be carried out by four hubs including Comexposed, Page Poetry Alive, Reprezent Radio and Khura Agency.
The #ScriptsandBars project has kicked off in Bulawayo with 25 participants being selected amongst Bulawayo’s top creatives to partake in the project. A call was put out for interested creatives to sign up for the project in January earlier this year. A total of 106 creatives applied from across all creative disciplines.

The project began with the Microsoft E-Learning programme which taught artists about their role in society, building teams, innovation, Human-Centred Design and branding. This course has been developed to equip African creatives with digital and business skills to thrive and build viable creative enterprises. The course is available for free to anyone who would like to also take it.

On the 19th of February, the Vocal Vinyl Vortex Workshops were held. The participants got to learn from industry experts such as Peggie Shangwa, Wadzanai Chiuri, Thembi Terry and Radio Reprezent’s Lashawna Rose, Lesziah Goodwin, Glory Talks and Blue Canarinho. This workshop included artists learning how their phones can be a studio for audio and video content production. They were also taught free tools to use create and edit content.
The Baseline Academy was held at Alliance Francaise in Harare. This leg of the project had panelists such as SoProfound, Amard, Zha, Blahtee Muchemwa, VI the Law, Musekiwa Samuriwo and Thembi Terry. It was a live-audience style, focus group session where the audience was given an opportunity to ask the panelists questions. Creative enterprises were invited to exhibit and showcase their art. There were live performances from artists such as Novuyo Seagirl, Efuru, D-Blok, Morset Billie, Kim Makumbe, Cingi the Voice, the queen Rutendorwashe, SP and more.

As part of the #ScriptsandBars project, UK and Zim creatives have to collaborate on digital art. Five groups consisting of an animator, a vocalist, a poet and a producer have been created and they have until the 11th of March to complete their creative collaborative projects. From Bulawayo, artists such as Lady Tshawe, Bhekiwe Dube, Meet Luminous, Msiz’kay and Ryan Synth have been selected. The final art pieces created will be showcased during an online event on the 18th March 2022.
