You are invited to the Ladies’ Prayer Meeting

Pastor Chichi Bismark from New Life Covenant Church in Harare holds a weekly ladies’ prayer meeting on Tuesday mornings in Harare. These ladies’ prayer meetings are a powerful spiritual gathering of women. From Facebook posts to TikTok videos, there is a growing interest in faith-based communities. On TikTok there’s the Proverbs 31 Babes and Christian Girl Hub. In Facebook groups there are posts of women looking for all-women prayer groups to join and fellowship with. This can be attributed to the realisation of the unique power of women supporting women in prayer truly exists.

Women have such a power in GOD, every powerful move of GOD, there are women at the forefront. The Lord was teaching me that the same way women in the natural are carriers, like they birth things, they bring life to things. Spiritually, it’s the same thing. Whenever there’s a spiritual move, a move of GOD in the natural, women are in the forefront because they express the nature of God to bring forth.” – Stephanie Ike-Okafor

Benefits of Attending the Ladies’ Prayer Meeting

  • Fosters a sense of belonging and community amongst women.
  • Provides a safe space to share prayer requests and concerns.
  • Offers encouragement and spiritual guidance from other women.
  • Creates a network of support for facing life’s challenges.

Romans 15:5-6 ESV May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Power of Prayer Together

When we discuss the biblical basis for communal prayer, we can find it in Matthew 18:19-20 which says, “Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there amongst them.” I think this is why the ladies’ prayer meetings are so powerful. It’s always testimony after testimony. All the prayers that I have personally prayed at the ladies’ prayer meetings have all been answered with lightning speed. There’s something powerful about praying together, standing in agreement in one accord. I thank God for answered prayers and the women who prayed over me and with me.

Shared prayer amplifies faith, strengthens resolve, and provides comfort. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 ESV says, “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” I love it when we are paired up during the prayer meeting to pray for one another. It’s taught me to pray more than just myself and my desires like in Philippians 2:4, Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” We literally pray for everything, everyone including the country.

2 Chronicles 7:14 – “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

The psychology of group prayer and its impact on individuals is immeasurable. I’ve always been a firm believer that what you make happen for others, God makes happen for you. During the prayer meetings, we are encouraged to pair up and start praying for one another. As you intercede for a stranger, you’re also ministering to yourself. By selflessly putting your personal needs aside, you will surely receive your reward from God.

James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

What Happens at the Ladies’ Prayer Meeting?

We start arriving as early as past 8. The prayer meeting itself starts at 9am sharp. We usually start with an opening prayer. From then on, we will have scripture reading and a short message from the woman leading the prayer. Sometimes it’s Pastor Chichi, sometimes it’s not. Either way, it doesn’t change the potency of the message. There are times when we will be given specific themed prayer topics and that’s when we will all disburse into our various corners to pray. If you think praying is a spectator sport, this isn’t the prayer meeting for you. Here, you open your mouth and make your requests and supplications known. You will pray like Hannah. If there are any testimonies they are shared towards the end, we take an offering and do the closing prayer. Everyone is free to leave shortly thereafter which is around 11am.

My personal tips for newcomers on feeling comfortable and participating actively aren’t too many. In fact, there’s only just one: come as you are. Don’t overthink it. Come with an open mind and a willingness to pray. The rest will sort itself out.

So every Tuesday morning I’m attending Pastor Chichi’s Ladies Prayer Meetings. And it seems like EVERY SINGLE week there are testimonies popping up. Last week, the breakthrough I prayed for came less than two hours after I left the prayer meeting. God is doing an amazing thing with women during this time and I have seen with my eyes the goodness of God in the land of the living. If you’re a lady living in Harare (you don’t have to be from NLCC), please join us for the prayer meetings on Tuesdays from 9am to 11am at New Life Covenant Church Harare. #PastorChichi #PastorChichiLadiesPrayer #PastorChichiLadiesPrayerMeeting #thembiterry #newlifecovenantchurchharare #nlcczw

Pastor Chichi’s ladies’ prayer meetings are open to every woman from any church. I strongly encourage all women to consider attending at least one meeting to experience the power of shared prayer. Have you ever experienced the power of praying as a group of women? You can share your own experiences in the comments section.

Acts 1:14 All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.
