Music Video Review: Berita’s Jikizinto

Berita looks stunning and her wardrobe is also beautiful. It’s the epitome of Afro-Eurocentric fusion. Her vocals are rich and soothing which is what we have come to love about her.

Award winning songstress Berita has dropped the music video for her single Jikizinto. Jikizinto is a track from her 4th studio album entitled, ‘Songs in the Key of Love.’

This song was the perfect selection in light of what we are going through globally. The Covid-19 pandemic has separated loves ones and we don’t know for how much longer. The song is about yearning, waiting and loving from far away. It’s the African version of Brandy’s song Long Distance.

If we could sum up the song into an African proverb, it would be, “okungapheliyo kuyahlola,” which means all things must come to an end. Yes, even an incurable virus has to let up at some point.

After decreeing and declaring it in the chorus, things do change and her lover returns home in the second stanza. We don’t see the lover but it’s not completely a bad thing, it’s a responsible/strategic thing.

Berita is alone in the video which emphasizes not just the loneliness but the concept of long distance relationships. We stan a caring queen who recorded a music video and minimized the number of people required on set.

The video itself is colourful and vibrant. It’s pleasing to the eye. Berita looks stunning and her wardrobe is also beautiful. It’s the epitome of Afro-Eurocentric fusion. Her vocals are rich and soothing which is what we have come to love about her.

Do you know someone who got locked down away from home? Dedicate this song to them.
