GANU presents Umtshado Ka Mbulumakhasane: The Exhibition, to be held on Friday the 5th of November, 2021, in Matobo, Matabeleland South, in Zimbabwe.
Umtshado Ka Mbulumakhasane is a hybrid Fashion Exhibition born out of a need by Nkanyeziyethu Malunga, to integrate the efforts and innovation of women in the rural areas with those in the urban environment. This idea came out of the efforts to create a platform for women in these two environments, to exhibit and share their skills, their cultural beauty and the knowledge systems.
While undertaking the project, Vikela iCOVID 19, Nkanyeziyethu met, trained and shared skills with women in Matobo, Tsholotsho, Lupane, Nyam’endlovu & St Peters. Through this experience with the women, she got to be a part of these women’s stories, motivations, lives and realized then how pertinent a platform where these women can create synergies is.
“Umtshado Ka Mbulumakhasane seeks to celebrate women from all walks of life. It at least tries to represent how blended Zimbabwean culture is…” said Nkanyeziyethu Malunga, Director & Designer at GANU.
Umtshado Ka Mbulumakhasane: The Exhibition will not only exhibit immaculate designed created by Nkanyeziyethu Malunga but will at the same be this very much needed environment for rural and urban women to share a space, cultivate a cross cultural exchange; considering the women involved come from very different and diverse backgrounds, cultures and traditions, and figure out means of collaborating their individual and personal effort while working together on this fashion show.

Hosting The Exhibition in a rural environment, away from the usual big city Hullaballoo is an effort to expose rural communities to the very beauty of their cultures and practices and how they are being used in urban environments, an effort promote rural tourism and the aesthetics it presents, an effort to tap into indigenous knowledge systems and develop from that experience and a reach with our empowerment drive, further than just our communities.
A deliberate effort has been made to drift away from the conventional fashion show. To fuse art with fashion, performance with the runway and to package a worthwhile experience of the creativity and designs of Nkanyeziyethu Malunga.
