Craving a new dining experience that tantalizes your taste buds and sparks your creativity? Look no further than Ja’Dijo, a captivating restaurant that recently opened its doors in Bulawayo.
True to its name, which translates to “eat food” in Sotho/Tswana, Ja’Dijo offers a delightful culinary adventure. Launched in February 2024, this exciting newcomer is already generating a buzz. Located between 10th and 11th Avenue and Robert Mugabe Way, Ja’Dijo boasts a vibrant atmosphere that infuses the City of Kings and Queens with a fresh cultural touch.
I had the pleasure of being greeted by the warmth of Awakhiwe, whose welcoming smile sets the tone for a relaxing experience. Soothing music fills the air, creating an ambiance so calming you might just forget about the clock ticking down on your lunch break.
Ja’Dijo is more than just delicious food. The restaurant provides a unique space for private events, complete with comfortable seating, strategically placed fans to combat the heat, and even built-in charging ports for your devices.
Here’s where things get truly special: Ja’Dijo offers a “Grab, Grub and Paint” experience. While you wait for your meal, unleash your inner artist by painting one of the stunning clay sculptures on display. Ranging from $5 and upwards, these creations can be collected the next day after a professional polish, making for a perfect souvenir or a fun family activity.
Now, let’s talk food! The menu caters to diverse palates, offering light meals, hearty mains, and a tempting selection of sushi (available Thursdays to Sundays only). My friend and I opted for the Cheeky Chicken and the Sausage and Chips, both of which were presented beautifully and bursting with flavor. The generous portions ensure you leave feeling satisfied, knowing you received excellent value for your money.
Ja’Dijo takes braaiing (grilling) to a whole new level. For certain dishes, they bring the grill directly to your table, allowing you to participate in the cooking experience with the assistance of your friendly waiter. It’s a truly interactive and memorable dining option.
The genuine passion for service shines through at Ja’Dijo. Manager, Qhelobuhle and team make sure that they are as attentive as they are professional. Their dedication to quality extends to the sushi, prepared only by the sous chef who is a master of this delicate cuisine. Hence the selected days of availability. There’s a refreshing transparency in this approach, ensuring the safety and satisfaction of every guest.
A special shout-out goes to Awakhiwe, whose attentiveness and genuine hospitality truly elevated our experience. From the moment we entered to the moment we left, we felt warmly welcomed.
Ja’Dijo is a breath of fresh air in Bulawayo’s culinary scene. With its innovative approach to dining, commitment to quality, and focus on guest experience, it’s a restaurant destined for success. I give it a perfect 10/10 and highly recommend you check it out for yourself!
